JOB DESCRIPTION



Commercial Underwriter  (Public Sector & Custom Markets )



CONTRACT ROLE - 6 MONTHS

The underwriter is responsible for underwriting new business, renewals and mid term adjustments in accordance with the companies underwriting guidelines. In addition, responsibility extends to assisting with the development and management of your portfolio of renewals and new business and related correspondence.



Key Tasks



Obtaining adequate information to enable the selection of high quality business within the Product segment.



Recording detailed assessment on file of underwriting information received and underwriting judgements made thereafter.



Ensure that all business is within product and is written in accordance with the underwriting guidelines.



Adequately price in accordance with the Underwriting Guidelines and own underwriting experience.



To deal with correspondence and queries in a timely manner.



Refer risks to the next authority level with notes and comments when over your authority.



Accurately prepare and issue policy documentation to brokers.



To process and input new business, renewals and mid term adjustments onto IT systems.



Liaise with the claims, actuarial, accounting, and risk management departments as necessary and detailed in the commercial underwriting procedures manual.



Person Specification



CIP preferable but not essential



3-5 years minimum commercial underwriting experience in an insurance company environment, which would include writing EL/PL, PPL, Property and BI lines is a pre-requisite. A high degree of technical expertise will be required in these classes



Experience in underwriting Public Sector and Custom Markets (Affinity Associations Schemes) risks would be an advantage though not essential.



Proven Relationship management skills are essential for success in this role. A proactive and positive approach to Customer Service is essential.



Proven time management skills, highly computer literate, a self-starter who works well as a team player with good interpersonal skills are also essential criteria for success in this role.



Good communication skills both written and oral - conscious of the need to project a professional message/manner in all communications.



Proven ability to be able to work fully within agreed Underwriting Authority Limits.



You will be responsible for the maintenance of accurate files/documentation.
