Leading international insurer with a smaller Irish subsidiary, seeks an experienced Commercial Underwriter to head up their Commercial Underwriting Division as Product Manager.




Job Description


Reporting to the Deputy General Manager, you will be expected to manage an existing team of eight direct reports and bring leadership, technical knowledge, customer focus and project management abilities to the role.



Roles/Responsibilities



To develop the product area in accordance with the business plan by liaising with the Actuarial, Compliance, Marketing/Sales, IT & Legal depts.


To fully manage and engage in the department to ensure maximum efficiency in workflow, communication, reporting and customer service terms.


To provide technical and other appropriate training to underwriting staff to ensure their continuing development.


To contribute by means of file audits to the quality of underwriting to ensure that underwriters have sufficient information to make informed decisions.


To monitor claims trends and market activities


To adhere to all technical underwriting guidelines and develop the underwriting philosophy of the department.




Skills/Experience



Experience of managing a property/liability portfolio is essential.


A minimum of 10 management experience of 5 or more staff in an underwriting capacity including:



  • performance management and appraisals
  • responsibility for the P&L of your product area
  • budget preparation
  • presentation of plans and results to the business
  • regular analysis on your book of business

Experience of building & managing all aspects of relationships with brokers is essential.


Proven analytical skills.




Education / Professional Qualifications



CIP or ACII qualified would be advantageous.




Personal Attributes



You should have a positive presence in the marketplace and be well known to larger brokers.
