A leading international insurer seeks an experienced Motor Underwriting Manager to develop their Commercial Motor, Fleet and Trade Products in a profitable manner.




Job Description


By developing a specific product business plan, the Commercial Motor Manager will be responsible for driving product development through building on existing broker relationships and ensuring that our client's presence is felt throughout the market.



Roles/Responsibilities




  • To achieve profitability goals for the Automotive product.
  • To provide technical training to underwriting staff, ensuring their continual development
  • Contribute to the quality of underwriting within the department by use of file audits
  • To develop broker relationships relevant to the product area by being a regular presence on site with the brokers
  • To monitor claims trends across the market
  • To identify IT needs and to work with the IT department to develop platforms which are suited to the development of the product from both a work-flow and account management perspective
  • Work with Risk Management to ensure timely and sufficient high quality information to make good underwriting decisions
  • To establish an underwriting philosophy for motor fleet business and to subsequently develop underwriting and rating guidelines for this class





Skills/Experience




  • Experience of managing a Motor Trade and Motor Fleet portfolio is essential
  • A minimum of 10 years management experience of 5 or more staff in an underwriting capacity is a pre-requisite.

This management experience will have encompassed:



  • performance management and appraisals and dealing will all areas of staff relations
  • responsibility for the P&L of your product area,
  • budget preparation
  • presentation of plans and results to the business
  • proving regular analysis on your book of business
  • Experience building and managing all aspects of relationships with Brokers from regular visits, to negotiating rates and managing contracts, is essential. This will mean that the incumbent has a positive presence in the marketplace and is well known to larger brokers.



Education / Professional Qualifications



  • CIP or ACII qualified would be advantageous

    • Proven Analytical Skills are highly desireable.
