Reporting to: Process Engineering Team Leader - New products and Technologies
Main Purpose and Objectives of Position :
The engineer in this role should:
(i) Develop and/or redesign unit operations so as to optimise them from a safety, quality, productivity and robustness.
Assess new processes and their unit operations against these requirements.
(ii) Have the ability to design/scale-up and technically transfer processes from lab to pilot plant and on to other production facilities.
(iii) Have a deep understanding of the unit operations deployed and be able to analyse/improve them using first principles.
(iv) Use computer-based modelling, simulation & analysis to look for improvement opportunities and to analyse problems.
(v) Have the ability to identify hazards and assess their relative risk.
(vi) Understand the detail of equipment operation, instrumentation & process control and how they interact to manage the processes in terms of product quality & process safety attributes.
(vii) Have a thorough understanding of the relationship between chemistry, unit operations, equipment and the operator.
Key Responsibilities :
In line with the job outlined above, the following are typically the key tasks that would be expected of the role:
• Knowing in-depth the processes and unit operations.
• Redesigning/improving unit operations/processes using process engineering fundamentals
• Scale-up / Technical transfer of processes and their unit operations from development to manufacture
• Operation of Pilot plant and development scale equipment
• Support of Pre-validation campaigns during development
• Experience in the lab during development phase (use/knowledge of Calorimetry equipment, IR, mass spectroscopy, FBRM)
• Improving productivity i.e. identifying and implementing improvement projects to allow the process to meet stretch cycle time goals, including equipment optimization and reliability issues as well as unit operation improvements.
Skills/Experience Required :
Degree in Chemical Engineering
Relevant Masters/PhD would be an advantage
3-5 years relevant experience in Development essential and 2 yrs process related experience in Manufacturing preferred
Personal Considerations :
Because of the critical importance of new products to the site, it is also envisaged that the role will be required to spend an amount of time working with his/her counterparts on a development site or third party site prior to transfer of the process to Kinsale.
Our Client's site operates on a 24/7 basis, the job may involve contact out of hours to provide technical assistance, possible non-scheduled call-in time to respond to plant emergencies and occasional scheduled call-in time to conduct process schools or provide technical cover during technical transfers and major project activity.
